This paper provides students with an introduction to Australasian financial markets and an evaluation of the institutions, instruments and participants involved in the industry. The mainstream markets to be evaluated include the share, money, bond, and exchange rate markets. The paper systematically reviews each of the mainstream financial markets and investigates the various institutional participants and the different types of financial instruments offered.

Paper Structure

This is a net-based paper. We will make effective use of applications such as Adobe Connect and Panopto.

Lectures will be recorded in Panopto and uploaded to Myweb for students to study.

Online live tutorials will be conducted in Adobe Connect. Adobe Connect allows students and the instructor to meet in a virtual “meeting room” with audio, video and chat facilities. Students must make sure they have proper computer and Internet access as required.

  • Explain the major functions performed by a developed financial system, their interrelationships and their official supervision;

The official website for this paper is Myweb: lecture notes, chapter-end question solutions, announcements and relevant documents will be uploaded to Myweb. Students are responsible to check Myweb regularly to keep informed.

The lectures will be recorded and uploaded online to Moodle (access via Myweb). The two tests are both online so students must make sure they have proper computer and Internet access as required, and login the online tests on time.
